Following a very successful initial investment in June 2021, led by Bain and Permira, SBT is delighted to announce reinvestment in the Retail Trust.

Since 1832, the Retail Trust has been caring for and protecting the lives of people working in retail. The Trust helps retailers care for the health and wellbeing of everyone in the retail sector via access to career-changing learning and development; financial, emotional and physical wellbeing services and supported-living estates.

The initial investment has equipped the Retail Trust with an ambitious 3-year wellbeing strategy and implementation plan. Project management and mentoring support continues to be delivered by EY and Refinitiv (an LSEG business). The newest investment, valued at £150k, will enable the appointment of an Interim Finance Officer to provide strategic advice and project management to support their next phase of growth.

Paul Armstrong, Managing Director at Permira, has joined the Retail Trust Board and continues to provide advice and support to the CEO and Board as SBT Investment Director.

In the 190-year history of the Retail Trust, the work we do to champion the health of everyone in retail has never been more relevant. Our vision is to ensure we can improve the health and wellbeing of every individual within the sector and the support of SBT has been invaluable in unlocking the transformation required to do just that. We are thrilled to have Paul Armstrong on board and look forward to continue working with SBT on shaping our next phase of growth at the Trust and the way the retail industry provides hope, health and happiness to all of its people. – Chris Brook-Carter, CEO, Retail Trust
We got off to a flying start with Retail Trust in 2020 and we are delighted to be able to enhance that support in 2022. We know the work they do has never been more appreciated and relevant. Armed with their new strategy and the support of our corporate partners, we know they will be able to support many more people in the retail sector. – Adele Blakebrough MBE, CEO, Social Business Trust
